bodhi is here

yay. i am so excited. my nephew was born on sunday, march 16th at 9:28 am. his name is bodhi gordon. he was 5 lbs. 15 oz. and 18 inches long. so so cute.

it was so crazy. he is 3 weeks early. just like my son mason. jen and ray were staying the night at our house saturday night. jen woke me up at 12:30 to tell me her water broke. i called miles and her husband ray. they were in the office playing video games. miles and i got our kids ready while jen took a shower. she was freaking out. understandably. we all drove to their house so jen could pack her bag. it was so funny because just like us they were not ready at all. they did not have the car seat installed, or her bags packed, or even all the stuff for the crib purchased. it totally reminded me of when mason was born.

i went with jen and ray to the hospital and miles stayed at their house with our kids. it was about 3:30 am. jen was great. they checked her in and hooked her up to an iv. this was a bit of a mess because they missed her vein twice and had to get it the third time. jen was feeling faint and shaking really bad. it was about 6:30 when she seemed settled in. they checked her cervix. she was dilated 1-2 at that point. her doctor had ordered pitocin for her. her contractions were 12 minutes apart, and it seemed like it was going to be a while. at this point i left the hospital to go feed my baby. jen and ray only live about 15 minutes from the hospital. i told them to call me when things got going. i called my mom to give her the update. they were going to go to the hospital as soon as ray told them things were happening. ray called me at 8:30 am to tell me she was dilated to 9 centimeters and they had called the doctor. man that was so fast. i called my mom again and then rushed back to the hospital. i got there just in time. she only pushed for an hour. little bodhi was born at 9:28 am. my mom was so bummed she missed the birth. they showed up about 15 minutes later. jen was great. she didn't have any pain killers or an epidural. she did it completely natural. i am so proud of her. she was amazing. she was so controlled. i was a crazy woman in birth compared to her.

it was so amazing to see the birth. what a different experience to see it from that perspective. it doesn't seem possible at first that the baby will fit. then you just stretch and there they are. so little. taking in their first breath. what a miracle. i feel so blessed to have shared the moment with jen and ray. they are going to be great parents. congratulations.
