4 months

connor is 4 months old. he went for his check up and he is 10 pounds 14 ounces and 22 inches tall. this is such a fun age. he is definitely still a baby but he smiles and laughs and makes those adorable cooing noises. oh i am in love. he has also started sleeping through the night. this is just a dream come true. he has even slept nine hours in a row. wow. i feel so lucky.

he has not started rolling over yet. i think we don't give him enough tummy time. it is so dangerous to have him on the floor in our house. there is always a toddler running around being reckless. i always think he is going to get trampled, or smacked in the head with a flying train. i have been making an effort to sit with him at least once a day now. he really likes it.

lemon gifts

more sewing. hurray. my mother-in-law came to visit for her birthday. we cooked a yummy steak and shrimp dinner and enjoyed chocolate cake for dessert. it was a nice small celebration at home.

mason helped me make these cute lemon themed gifts for her. we sewed a rice warming bag scented with some lemon essential oil and a cute yellow apron to match. mason mixed the essential oil into the rice and helped me fill the bag. he was so excited to give her the gift that he blurted out "we made you a healing bag grammy", right when she walked in the door. so cute. it was a fun celebration and we were happy to share her birthday with her.

baby gift

my friend kristi is expecting her second baby girl. how cute. i am not going to be able to attend her shower so we decided to visit and bring her gift. for this cute shower gift i sewed a blanket, 2 bibs, and a soft basket for it all to fit nicely in. i also added a store bought outfit to complete the gift. the blanket and soft baskets were the same patterns i used before here and here. the bibs were a new project for me. i loved them so much i ended up making two more for my daughter's baby dolls. i plan to make a few for connor next. they were made using a pattern from bend the rules sewing . this is a really cool book. i already have a couple more projects from it that i am anxious to try.

kristi loved her gift and we loved visiting. i can't wait for her baby to get here. yay for babies.

discovery science center

what a fun weekend we had. i took all three kids to the discovery science center yesterday. i was so proud to take them out without miles. i did have some help when i got there though. thank goodness. jen, ray, bodhi, christina, and zena all met us there. it is a small museum that has lots of interactive exhibits for the kids. they loved it so much we decided to buy a membership for the year. they feature a new exhibit every month so it seemed worth it to join. this month it was the secret of circles. i think the highlights of the center were the earthquake simulator and the dinosaur exhibit. i could tell mason loved it because we had a hard time getting him to leave. it will be fun to go back anytime we want to.

i heart you

for a valentines treat jen, ray, bodhi, christina, and zena all came over and stayed the weekend with us. we had a blast. we did valentine crafting. my second attempt at making valentines this year. this time we used stamps. that seemed to be a little easier for the kids. when we were done making cards we baked some red velvet cupcakes. oooh these were so yummy. i think it is the cream cheese frosting that makes them extra good. we all had a delicious salmon dinner with champagne for the grown ups. after dinner the boys and girls all split up so the guys could go play video games and my sisters and i could watch the vampire diaries. i love that show. it is my new guilty pleasure.

noah's ark

miles and i took the kids to meet jen and bodhi at the skirball center yesterday. we saw the noah's ark exhibit. it was so cool. mason and dahlia had a blast. i was so impressed. it is a permanent exhibit that has a large ark filled with tons of activities for the kids to interact with. they can create a rain storm by turning cranks and a thunderstorm by moving levers. there are tons of large animals all built from re-purposed materials. i loved that the kids were allowed to touch everything. i didn't have to worry about them breaking any rules. the design of the place is so well thought out. so nice. i would have loved to stay and see the rest of the cultural center but after two hours of running around the ark the kids were exhausted. we are making plans to go back and see the rest of the exhibits. what a great outing.

mini snow trip

we just got back from a really short but super fun trip to big bear. we had so much fun the last time we went to the snow we just had to go back. this time we rented a super cute cabin at the pine summit christian camp. they had really affordable rates for a very nice three bedroom cabin that would sleep up to fourteen people. i really wish we would have stayed for two nights but we are all really broke right now and one night was going to have to do. jen, ray, bodhi, christina, zena, miles, and i with all our kids were able to say in one cabin. so nice and cozy. (sorry to those there about our kids screaming during the night).

mason and dahlia had so much fun playing in the snow and sledding. it was really cold this time. much colder than the last time we were there. i was worried about taking baby connor out in the snow so we took turns staying in the cabin with him the first day. we did take him out to see the snow in the morning before we left because it was a much warmer day. we didn't want him to miss out. i loved hanging out in the cabin after dark. cooking dinner and playing apples to apples. family time is so much fun. it would be so cool to stay for a longer trip so we wouldn't feel so rushed to fit everything in. it was so beautiful. i just remember waking up and looking out the window with a silent gasp at how gorgeous the scenery was. i was so sad to leave. next year we are definitely going to plan a longer trip.
